It's hard to say whether Anthony Arkin and his mother, Barbara Dana, are writers who act or actors who write. In spite of their considerable success on stage and in television and films, they are both prolific writers in a variety of genres.

The young adult adventure novel, Captain Hawaii, is one of Arkin's earliest and most delightful writing successes, but he has also written several fine screenplays and much other prose.

photo: Barbara DanaDana has written several award-winning books both for children and young adults, and one of her favorite YA novels is Young Joan, about Joan of Arc. She helped transform her book about teens and divorce, Necessary Parties (an ALA Best Book), for PBS. And she is now working on a book about the young Emily Dickinson. She is also a playwright. Her first play, War in Paramus, was developed at Hudson Stage Company and recently premiered in NYC.

We're not sure yet what the two will read for us. For sure Captain Hawaii will be on hand, and for sure the whole reading will be an adventure.

Introductions by Jean Craighead George.
