Some of you may remember that we celebrated new books by these two writers in April 2002, and we are delighted that five years later they both happen to have new books again.

Cleary’s book is Trick Pear and it is published by Carnegie Mellon Press as part of its 2007 Poetry Series. The title poem, “Trick Pear,” was anthologized in 180 More: Extraordinary Poems For Every Day (Random House, 2005).

McClanahan’s book is Deep Light, New & Selected Poems, 1987 - 2007 and it is published by Iris Press. McClanahan says it is not a typical collection of poems. It is a carefully selected arrangement that is intended to create a continuous, unified text in which the poems move forward in an alternating dance of light and shade.

For more details about these poets, see the instructor bios on our workshops page. You’ll see why they are both secure enough to agree to a reading on April Fool’s Day!

All readings include a question & answer period and a reception with books by the author(s) for sale.

Suggested Donation: $5 ($3 for HVWC members and those under age 18)
