Slapering Hol Press Winner

photo: Nancy Taylor EverettNancy Taylor Everett’s chapbook, Juliet As Herself, was inspired by Shakespeare’s beloved heroine, but it’s about a contemporary teen. Suzanne Cleary calls Everett’s language “declarative, deadpan, dead on” and Susan Ferris calls the work “smart yet tender.”

Everett is active in the San Francisco Bay Area Poet’s Workshop (www.thirteenways.org) and holds a BA in Creative Writing from the University of CA at Santa Cruz where she worked with Raymond Carver. Her work has appeared in many literary magazines including Wisconsin Review, Patterson Review, Nimrod, RUNES, Spoon River Quarterly, and Chatauqua. Individual poems have won the Baltimore Review Poetry Contest and the Mid-American Review James Wright Poetry Award.

Everett will be joined by previous SHP winners who will read briefly: David Tucker (2003 SHP winner and winner of the 2005 Bakeless Poetry Prize), Susan Case (2002 SHP winner), Ellen Goldsmith (1997), and Lynn McGee (1995). Poet Margo Stever, SHP Editor, will host.

The Slapering Hol Press Chapbook Competition is open to all poets who have not yet had their work published in book form. Submission Deadline: May 15th.

All readings include a question & answer period and a reception with books by the author(s) for sale.
