Mary
Kaiser
David Petruzelli
|
Winner and Returnee
Her work is inspired not just by Velázquez but by Eakins, Cornell, Rivera, Kahlo, Manet, Monet, Richter, Arbus, and others— and by daily life. “The voice here is intelligent, careful, confident, and to be especially praised for. . . understanding that power often lies in restraint,” said poet Carl Phillips. Kaiser is a member of the English faculty at Jefferson State Community College and has had her poems appear in The Cincinnati Review, PMS, and Perihelion, among others. She received a Hackney award in 2005.
Petruzelli’s first book, Everyone Coming Toward You (2005), was selected by Campbell McGrath for the Tupelo Press Judge’s Prize. His poems have appeared in Barrow Street, The Gettysburg Review, MiPOesias, The New Yorker, Partisan Review, and Rattle. A former auction writer and appraiser, he is a member of the expert committee of The Philatelic Foundation in Manhattan. This reading made possible by the Sanger Stewart Memorial Fund.
All readings include a question & answer period and a reception with books by the author(s) for sale.
