Join us at the Writers' Center on Sunday, September 13 at 4:30 following Sleepy Hollow's Second Sunday Bazaar* (Morse School Playground) for a reading of Welcome, This is a Neighborhood Watch Community, followed by a dialogue with the playwright and actors.

The backdrop of this new drama by critically acclaimed playwright (and founder of Westchester's Axial Theatre) Howard Meyer, is the current economic crisis. The play, set in Montauk, Long Island, follows Justin, the eldest child of the Campbell family, and the impact his father Harris' choices as a NYC hedge fund manager have had on the entire Campbell family. The Montauk private school that Justin attends has hired an esteemed English teacher with a famous literary last name. This teacher, who holds very opposite views from Justin’s father, quickly becomes Justin’s mentor, much to Harris' consternation. The story centers on the power struggle between these two role models, Justin’s father, a man with financial power and influence, and Justin’s mentor, a man with powerful ideals, and the impact this struggle has on the family and the developing 16 year old that lies between them.

The reading will feature Axial Company actors Patrick Davin, Jess Erick, Anne Gulian, and Rachel Jones, with guest actors Sean Hopkins, Vayu O’Donnell, and Jacob Garrett White.

At the conclusion of the reading the audience will be invited to participate in a dialogue about the play with Mr. Meyer and the actors.

Suggested donation is $5 ($3 for HVWC members). Reservations recommended, info@writerscenter.org
