The Hudson Valley Writers' Center presents
A reading by Off World Theatre
of Mr. Hoover's Tea Party

Saturday, September 10th, 2005, 8:00 pm

Your reactions will be explored and appreciated when Off World Theatre of Teaneck, NJ, comes to the HVWC for a reading of Stanton Wood’s new play, Mr. Hoover’s Tea Party, which presents what happened—and might have happened—when Martin Luther King, Jr. sat down with J. Edgar Hoover in the late ‘60s to discuss public attacks on King by Hoover, and King’s comments about FBI investigations (or lack thereof) of civil rights violations in the South.

Wood and director Tamilla Woodard will be on hand after the reading to hear what you have to say. “We hope to learn where the script needs work and what does work that we can build on,” Off World’s artistic director, Joseph Giardina tells us.

Stanton Wood is a playwright, screenwriter, and game designer whose plays include The Resurrectionists, Eating Dirt, When Lucy Ran Away, Elsie’s Bottom, Down the Drain, Red Nightmare, Ramona’s Daughter’s Kidnapper, and The Frenzy of the Chum Eaters. He is the recipient of an ACTF Playwriting Award, two Massachusetts Interactive Media Council awards, a Hamburg Partnership Grant, and a Pittsburgh City Council Proclamation.

Suggested Donation: $8 ($6 for HVWC members and those under age 18)

The readings at the HVWC are made possible in part by a grant from the Bydale Foundation; the David G. Taft Foundation; the Orchard Foundation; and the Thendara Foundation; with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a State Agency; and by Westchester Arts Council with funds from Westchester County Government, corporations and individuals.
