SLAPERING HOL PRESS WINNER READS AT OPEN MIKE
Nevin describes the chapbook poems as an exploration of “the way the mind works through the fogged lens of Alzheimer’s disease; the way memories, relationships, and even language itself disarticulates; the way we perceive and misperceive ourselves, our loved ones and our own histories; and how we learn to survive inside these strange and fluid worlds.” Nevin is a teacher of creative writing at Arizona State University, where he serves as the assistant director of ASU’s Young Writer’s Program and outreach coordinator for The Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing. He was awarded an Academy of American Poets Prize and a Creative Writing Fellowship from the Arizona Commission on the Arts. He is co-editor of 22 Across: A Review of Young Writers, and his work has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies including The Gettysburg Review, Blackbird: Poet Lore, 5 AM, Journal of American Medical Association, Runes, A Review of Poetry, and Family Matters: Poems of Family (Bottom Dog Press). Those interested in learning more about the Slapering Hol Press competition should check our website or contact the office for guidelines. The deadline for submission of entries to the 2006 competition is May 15th. After a break for book-signing, an abbreviated Open Mike will follow. Those wishing to read should be at the HVWC before 8 pm to sign up. photo by Jamie Esposito | |
