Galaxy
Craze of Amherst, MA, and New York City, likewise tells the
story of a sixties upbringing in her best-selling debut novel By the
Shore, which was described as "an ageless coming of age story" by
Seattle Weekly. Craze's skillfully crafted narrator is May, a twelve-year-old
girl who lives with her single mother in a struggling seaside English
bed-and-breakfast. May is poised on the threshold of childhood and maturity
and she gives us an exceptionally clear-sighted view in both directions.
By the Shore possesses a mastery of language and story that few first
novels do, "and the tension," says the New York Times Book Review,
"is so palpable you'd think you were reading a thriller." |
