The dialogue in Richard Price’s work is so real, you think you’re eavesdropping, and his well-crafted plots and colorful characters reveal the skills that make him such a success with screenplays.
He has written seven novels, including the national bestsellers, Freedomland (inspired in part by the Susan Smith story), and Clockers, which was nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Award. His latest novel, Samaritan, is a crime drama set in the gritty, urban New Jersey that readers know well from his earlier works. Its main character won’t tell who brutally assaulted him, but a childhood friend, now a detective, is determined to get to the truth.
Price’s screenplays include Sea of Love, Ransom, and The Color of Money.
Price’s fiction, articles and essays have appeared in Best American Essays 2002, The New York Times, The New York Times Book Review, The New Yorker, Esquire, The Village Voice, and Rolling Stone. In 1999 he received an Award in Literature from the Academy of Arts and Letters.
