in Fiction We
welcome back Roxana Robinson of Katonah, NYC, and Maine, and her good friend,
Mary Gordon of NYC, appearing here for the first time. Robinson’s
A Perfect Stranger and Other Stories was released by Random House this
spring and Kirkus Review, in its starred review, said we get “a peek into
the obsessions and troubles of the well-versed and well-off” in “stories that
tick away with the precision of perfectly wrought timepieces.” She is the author
of three novels (including Sweetwater and This Is My Daughter),
two other story collections, and the acclaimed biography Georgia O’Keefe: A
Life. Four of these were named Notable Books of the Year by The New York
Times.
Gordon’s
latest book Pearl: A Novel, which was just published by Pantheon, was described
by The Boston Globe as “an absorbing, affecting tale of family bonds sundered
and reknit,” and critic John Leonard calls her “endlessly inquisitive, utterly
fearless.” She is the author of four best-selling novels: Final Payments, The
Company of Women, Men and Angels, and The Other Side; a book of novellas,
The Rest of Life; a collection of stories, Temporary Shelter; and
a book of essays, Good Boys and Dead Girls; and a startling memoir, The
Shadow Man. She is a professor of English at Barnard College.
All
readings include a question & answer period and a reception with books by the
author(s) for sale. |
