photo: Sholeh WolpeSholeh Wolpé is a poet and translator who was born in Iran but spent most of her teen years in the Caribbean and Europe, ending up in the U.S. where she pursued masters degrees at Northwestern (in radio, TV, film) and Johns Hopkins (in public health). She is the author of The Scar Saloon (Red Hen Press, 2004) and her poetry and translations have been published in many literary journals and anthologies in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. She is the director and host of Poetry at the Loft, a successful poetry venue in Redlands, CA. www.sholehwolpe.com

He is a faculty member in the College of Ethnic Studies at San Francisco State University, and a recipient of a California Arts Council Grant and a Lannan Literary Residency. His debut collection of poems, Somewhere Else, was published by Coffee House Press. They will be joined by Mansour Ajami, a poet and ‘oud player, and Herbert Hadad, an award-winning essayist and long-time HVWC instructor whose roots are in Syria. This event is part of a two-week (November 1st - 13th) celebration called “The Spirit of Andalusia: A Joyous Celebration of Diversity and Cultural Understanding” and is made possible by the Center for Jewish-Christian-Muslim Understanding of Irvington. www.cjcmu.org
