    FAQs

Is HVWC programming in-person or virtual?

HVWC offers workshops, community events, and readings in a variety of formats – virtually on Zoom, on site in Sleepy Hollow, NY, and hybrid (both virtual and in person access).

All in-person participants must show proof of vaccinations against Covid-19 in order to attend. See our complete Covid-19 policies here.

Each event page on our calendar will specify whether it is being offered virtually, in-person, or in a hybrid format.

Do you offer individual instruction with teachers?

Some of our teachers do book private sessions with interested students, depending on their availability and the schedule of the space. Please fill out this inquiry form to get started, but do visit our Workshop page to see if any of the courses we offer might also be of interest.

We will do our best to pair you with an instructor for a private consultation, charged hourly and based on the availability of both teacher and Center.

Do you offer private rentals of HVWC's space?

Visit our Rental page to learn more.

Then contact us to get started by filling out this form:

How do I become an instructor at HVWC?

Thank you for your interest in teaching at HVWC. The Program Committee is always interested in considering course proposals from published writers who are interested in teaching at the Center. Please send a cover letter, bio, title, and brief course description to Program Director Jennifer Franklin via email. Please let us know if you have experience teaching in the lower Hudson Valley and can attract your own students to study with you at HVWC.

Our teachers receive 50% of the tuition from each student (the Center receives the other 50%).

Please note, all our teachers help with marketing and publicity of their own classes.

How can I be considered to read in the HVWC/SHP Reading Series?

Thank you for your interest in reading in our acclaimed series. While we are fully booked through the end of 2022, we are considering authors with books upcoming in 2023 for our 2023 reading series. Please send a review copy or a PDF of the galleys to:

Please note, that at this time, we are not offering readings in the regular series to self-published writers. We do have two open mics each month, with a 15-minute featured artist at each one. For more information about being a featured artist at open mic, please send an email to [email protected] and we will forward your request to Bill Buschel, host of Open Mic.
