The full dates of the session are described in the course descriptions. You would need to scroll back to the start date if you needed to enroll for something already underway. But do let us know if you want to join something in midstream since we need the blessing of the instructor. Questions? Email us.

Chance Encounters: Synchronicity, Coincidence and the Divine with Karen Finley via Zoom
April 23 @ 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm$124.00

This workshop will explore Chance as inspiration. We will consider how coincidence creates an awareness, discovery, a different course of events, in our creative direction and relationships. These coincidences at times at best are absurd- the matching of numbers, meeting at the same time and place from great distances. Going left instead of right. But sometimes, chance feels fated and brings a total new purpose. Chance is not planned but unexpected, creating surprise within the mundanity of circumstances. Synchronicity occurs when we give meaning to the magic and message of the implausible. In our writing we will reflect on our own coincidences – but in our workshop we will offer more than that.
As artists and writers, we will employ coincidence into our own imagination. Perhaps taking those chance encounters into imagined developed relationships, taking the risk, the opportunity. Or we will consider and cherish these coincidences as spaces of fortune, mystery and other intelligences at work.
Considering John Cage’s Chance Operations or throwing the I Ching, Finley will offer chance creative exercises of chance selection and randomness to take us out of our typical paths and mindset. This writing workshop is to generate new inspiration, writing explorations. Finley creates a series of prompts that she develops for this particular workshop that will expand and focus.
We will share briefly our writing / creative responses at the end of the workshop. This class welcomes returning and emerging creatives. Introverts welcome.
NB: This class will take place on zoom from 12:30pm – 3:30pm EST. It is capped at 15 students. Please read our course policies page before enrolling for any of our workshops. Scholarships have been awarded for this class.
