WELCOME TO THE HVWC CALENDAR: home of all our upcoming readings, events and workshops. You can view by list or calendar (see right menu to choose). Click the colored tabs below to show only specific options. Our workshops run as multi-session series or one-day “intensives.” Note, we list the multi-session courses on the first day they meet only. The full dates of the session are described in the course descriptions. You would need to scroll back to the start date if you needed to enroll for something already underway. But do let us know if you want to join something in midstream since we need the blessing of the instructor. Questions? Email us.

You Can Do It: A Poetry Workshop for Beginners and Others with Suzanne Cleary via Zoom
July 19 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm$370
Our Writers Center community and neighbors have requested an Introduction to Poetry Writing workshop, and here it is! This workshop is an introduction to writing poetry, designed for those who are brand new to writing poetry, and also for those who want to reenergize their poems by revisiting the basics. With a focus on core poetic techniques, we will read model poems and use them as the basis for writing exercises and weekly assignments. Expect a supportive circle of writers, and lots of advice, tips, and even (should I say this?) tricks.
This class will be taught via Zoom on six consecutive Mondays. The Zoom link will be emailed at the time of registration. (Please check spam / promotions filters and write to [email protected] with any questions.)
Suzanne Cleary’s Crude Angel (BkMk Press 2018) is her fourth full-length poetry collection. Beauty Mark (BkMk 2013) won the John Ciardi Prize for Poetry, the Nassar Poetry Prize, and the Paterson Award for Literary Excellence. Recipient of a Pushcart Prize and the Cecil Hemley Memorial Award of the Poetry Society of America, she has enjoyed residencies at Yaddo and MacDowell. Her poems appear in national and international journals, most recently in The Moth, as one of four finalists chosen by Nick Laird for the annual Moth Poetry Prize: https://www.irishtimes.com/culture/books/read-the-four-poems-on-the-6-000-moth-poetry-prize-shortlist-1.4495906
