WELCOME TO THE HVWC CALENDAR: home of all our upcoming readings, events and workshops. You can view by list or calendar (see right menu to choose). Click the colored tabs below to show only specific options. Our workshops run as multi-session series or one-day “intensives.” Note, we list the multi-session courses on the first day they meet only. The full dates of the session are described in the course descriptions. You would need to scroll back to the start date if you needed to enroll for something already underway. But do let us know if you want to join something in midstream since we need the blessing of the instructor. Questions? Email us.

Poetic Forgiveness and Other Intentional Acts of Creative Compassion with Karen Finley (via Zoom)

March 25 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Letting go, holding on, remembering, recollecting, forgiving ourselves and others is a process that can be nurtured by expression. This creative workshop is intended to inspire, imagine, refocus and engage with compassion, sympathy, restoration, the tensions, the conflicts, the grace of elevated language that is part of creating complex verse. It is in the search for meaning, in observation, releasing or owning defensiveness, that we can gain new perspective and flow of daily living, sorrow, regret or reconciliation. This can be considered as deadly serious, political, biting or casual and random. The half assed apology. The hurt hidden away. Through a series of crafted prompts I will guide you through a process to inspire and navigate the words never heard, heartache, the areas to reveal and give voice to or reimagine new narratives of your choosing. This is a creative workshop so humor, twinkle, the uncanny, absurdity, resistance and joy are possible. Returning and new creatives welcome. Introverts welcome. Sarcasm cherished but open to other scenarios if given a chance. I look forward to working with you as your guide.

This class will be taught on Zoom and will be capped at 20 students. Registrants will receive the Zoom link to the email address they use to register. The Zoom link will be sent via email 24hours before the class time. Please check your spam folder. Please review the course policies page before registering for any classes. Please email ask @writerscenter.org with any questions.
