WELCOME TO THE HVWC CALENDAR: home of all our upcoming readings, events and workshops. You can view by list or calendar (see right menu to choose). Click the colored tabs below to show only specific options. Our workshops run as multi-session series or one-day “intensives.” Note, we list the multi-session courses on the first day they meet only. The full dates of the session are described in the course descriptions. You would need to scroll back to the start date if you needed to enroll for something already underway. But do let us know if you want to join something in midstream since we need the blessing of the instructor. Questions? Email us.

Bright Spots: A Flash Memoir with CMarie Fuhrman via Zoom

January 22 @ 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm

We remember in this way. Moments. Spurts. Flashes. As we look back on our lives these moments stand out, like bright spots on a hillside, the one house in the neighborhood with its lights on. Our task, at least in this class, will be to peer into those windows and report what we see and do so in 6 to 700 words! (just the right size to submit to journals and contests seeking flash stories.)

Flash memoirs are intensified, very short, personal stories modeled on flash-writing traits.  A flash memoir relies on the in-the-moment account of your experience and takes it into the crafted-story realm – where others may read and react to it.

In this generative class, you can expect a lot of examples to help learn flash techniques. Fun prompts. Ideas for revision. And where to submit your beautiful memoir in miniature!

This workshop is for creative nonfiction and memoir writers. This class will be taught online using Zoom. Login instructions will be emailed at the time of workshop registration. Please check spam filters or email [email protected] with questions.
