WELCOME TO THE HVWC CALENDAR: home of all our upcoming readings, events and workshops. You can view by list or calendar (see right menu to choose). Click the colored tabs below to show only specific options. Our workshops run as multi-session series or one-day “intensives.” Note, we list the multi-session courses on the first day they meet only. The full dates of the session are described in the course descriptions. You would need to scroll back to the start date if you needed to enroll for something already underway. But do let us know if you want to join something in midstream since we need the blessing of the instructor. Questions? Email us.

Gala: Online 2020

October 30, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$100 – $1500

This year we will hold our annual benefit on Friday evening, OCTOBER 30,2020, at 7 pm, via Zoom. You will receive the Zoom info in an email receipt after you register (check your Spam folder if you can’t find it).

In line with our mission to celebrate the highest quality literature across genres we are proud to honor Jericho Brown (winner of the 2020 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry; Susan Choi (Winner of the 2019 National Book Award for Fiction); Toi Derricotte (Finalist for the 2019 National Book Award in Poetry); Katharine Holabird (author of the Angelina Ballerina series of Children’s Literature); and Leslie Jamison (Finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize). They will read from their latest works and join us for live discussion that evening. We will begin by honoring our founding member Donald Stever, who is retiring from his role as Board Chair at the end of this year. We can’t thank him enough for his tireless service to the HVWC through the decades!

Virtual Doors open at 6:30 pm for getting together in smaller breakout rooms with old friends and new. Doors stay open after the event for more gathering in your groups!

We will also hold a “live online” auction, offering items specifically attuned to what people may want and need in this challenging environment, such as cultural experiences, learning opportunities, health and sports packages (and of course fine wine!). The auction is open for your bidding now. Please visit the auction anytime through October, including during our event night, to check on your items and donate.

Reduced price tickets available for HVWC students and instructors. Buy 10 tickets to fill your “virtual table” with friends.

Every full-price ticket buyer will be sent  a free copy of our latest Slapering Hol Press Conversation Series chapbook: Toi Derricotte’s and Dawn Lundy Martin’s A Bruise Is a Figure of Remembrance. If you’d rather not receive this, you can buy a Ticket with the “opt out of chapbook” option.
