WELCOME TO THE HVWC CALENDAR: home of all our upcoming readings, events and workshops. You can view by list or calendar (see right menu to choose). Click the colored tabs below to show only specific options. Our workshops run as multi-session series or one-day “intensives.” Note, we list the multi-session courses on the first day they meet only. The full dates of the session are described in the course descriptions. You would need to scroll back to the start date if you needed to enroll for something already underway. But do let us know if you want to join something in midstream since we need the blessing of the instructor. Questions? Email us.

[email protected] with Misty Yarnall (fiction workshop series for students in Grades 4-8 via Zoom)

October 18 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

$270.00

Through this Zoom workshop, students will participate in a variety of creative prompts and activities to jumpstart their creativity. Topics will range from worldbuilding, character development, plot structure, outlining, and positive sharing. Activities will engage writers on and off the Zoom platform to prevent excessive screen time. Students will leave this workshop with a community of young writers and a portfolio of short stories.

Class will take place on Zoom for six consecutive Tuesdays, starting October 18th and ending November 22nd from 4:30-5:30 PM EST. It is best suited to students currently in grades 4-8. This class will be supportive, generative, informative, and fun!

Registration is $270 for the 6week series. Zoom link will be sent at the time of registration and again the day before class.

Misty Yarnall received her BFA in Creative Writing from Purchase College. Her work can be found in a handful of literary magazines, including Prime Number Magazine, The Roadrunner Review, KAIROS Literary Magazine, and The Merrimack Review. She holds awards in the Sixth Act Playwriting Competition and the POV Fest Screenwriting Contest. She has served as an apprentice and intern within the youth programming department at Writers & Books and is an active editing intern with DLG Publishing Partners. Misty organized and taught HVWC’s summer writing program, Writer’s Express, in summer 2022 to great success.
