Passion and Precision in the Love Poem: Craft Class with Richie Hofmann (via Zoom)

November 11 @ 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Nearly 2,700 years ago, Sappho made songs of consuming desire; what remains of them thrills us today. Why are we drawn to other people’s love stories? How do amorous and erotic poems capture the specificity of a single relationship while also making our hearts sing? By close reading exemplary poems, we will explore strategies for crafting passionate and precise poems of love and sexuality.

NB: This class will be taught on Zoom and will be capped at 15 students. Registrants will receive the Zoom link to the email address they use to register. It will arrive immediately after registration so please check your spam folder if you do not receive it. It will also be sent the day before class as a reminder. Please review the course policies page before registering for any classes. Please email [email protected] with any questions.

Richie Hofmann is the author of two books of poems, A Hundred Lovers (2022) and Second Empire (2015). His poetry appears recently in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The New York Review of Books, and The Yale Review, and has been honored with the Ruth Lilly and Wallace Stegner fellowships.
