An Evening with Silvina López Medin, Jennifer Militello, and Jennifer Stewart Miller on Zoom

Silvina López Medin was born in Buenos Aires and lives in New York. Her books of poetry include: La noche de los bueyes (1999), winner of the Loewe Foundation International Young Poetry Prize, Esa sal en la lengua para decir manglar (2014), 62 brazadas (2015), and Excursion (2020) was selected by Mary Jo Bang as the winner of the 2019 Oversound Chapbook Prize (Oversound, 2020). Her hybrid poetry book Poem That Never Ends was a winner of the 2019 Essay Press Contest (Essay Press, 2021). Her play Exactamente bajo el sol (staged at Teatro del Pueblo, 2008) was granted the Plays Third Prize by the Argentine Institute of Theatre. She co-translated Anne Carson’s Eros the Bittersweet (2015) and Home Movies (2016), a book by Robert Hass, into Spanish. Her poems and other pieces have appeared in Ploughshares, Brooklyn Rail, and MoMA/post, among others. She translates art articles for MoMA. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from NYU and is an editor at Ugly Duckling Presse.

Jennifer Militello is the award-winning author of The Pact, forthcoming from Tupelo Press in 2021 and Knock Wood, winner of the Dzanc Nonfiction Prize (Dzanc Books, 2019), as well as four additional collections of poetry: A Camouflage of Specimens and Garments (Tupelo Press, 2016), called “positively bewitching” by Publishers WeeklyBody Thesaurus (Tupelo Press, 2013), named one of the top books of 2013 by Best American Poetry and runner-up for the Poetry Society of America’s Alice Fay Di Castagnola Award, Flinch of Song, winner of the Tupelo Press First Book Award, and the chapbook Anchor Chain, Open Sail. Her work has been published widely in such journals as American Poetry ReviewThe NationThe New RepublicThe Paris ReviewPloughsharesPOETRY, and Tin House, and anthologized in Best American PoetryBest New Poets, and Poem-a-Day: 365 Poems for Every Occasion. She has been awarded the Barbara Bradley Award, the Yeats Poetry Prize, the Ruskin Art Club Poetry Award, the Betty Gabehart Prize, and the 49th Parallel Award, as well as grants and fellowships from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts, the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund, Writers at Work, and the Millay Colony for the Arts. She teaches in the MFA program at New England College.

Jennifer Stewart Miller is the author of Thief (2021), winner of the 2020 Grayson Books Poetry Prize, A Fox Appears: A Biography of a Boy in Haiku (2015), and a chapbook, The Strangers Burial Ground (Seven Kitchens Press 2020). Her poems have appeared lately in Aquifer: The Florida Review Online, Cutleaf, The Night Heron Barks, RHINO, Tar River Poetry, and Verse Daily, among others, and she recently co-edited with poets Elaine Sexton and Joan Cappello a collection of poetry written during the pandemic. She holds an MFA from Bennington College and a JD from Columbia University.
