WELCOME TO THE HVWC CALENDAR: home of all our upcoming readings, events and workshops. You can view by list or calendar (see right menu to choose). Click the colored tabs below to show only specific options. Our workshops run as multi-session series or one-day “intensives.” Note, we list the multi-session courses on the first day they meet only. The full dates of the session are described in the course descriptions. You would need to scroll back to the start date if you needed to enroll for something already underway. But do let us know if you want to join something in midstream since we need the blessing of the instructor. Questions? Email us.

Monday Night Poetry Workshop with Patrick Donnelly via Zoom

September 13 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

$370.00
Please note that this workshop is now sold out! Thanks for all the interest. If you want to be put on the waiting list for this workshop, or have questions about other workshop options, please email [email protected]

We’ll gather to consider poems that you’ve already written, an opportunity to receive response and to give it. Our goal is to become the best “noticers” we can be, “people on whom nothing is lost,” as Henry James put it. Our primary purpose is more practice developing and articulating our thoughts about other people’s poems, so we might turn the same skilled, discerning eye on our own work. If my experience at HVWC is any indication, we’ll probably get silly, be swept by occasional fits of giggling, and enjoy the heck out of each other’s company. But we’ll also gather, as peers at different levels, to give each participant the closest, most honest and generous readings possible. My plan is to give you the encouragement necessary to stay engaged with a process that is often enjoyable, but which is also real work, in the most satisfying and transformative sense.

This six-week class will be taught on Zoom for six consecutive Mondays from September 13 to October 18. Login instructions will be emailed at the time of workshop registration. Please check spam filters or email [email protected] with questions. Class is capped at 10 students.

PATRICK DONNELLY is the author of four books of poetry, Little-Known Operas (Four Way Books, 2019), Jesus Said (a chapbook from Orison Books, 2017), Nocturnes of the Brothel of Ruin (Four Way Books, 2012, a 2013 finalist for the Lambda Literary Award), and The Charge (Ausable Press, 2003, since 2009 part of Copper Canyon Press). Donnelly is director of the Poetry Seminar at The Frost Place, Robert Frost’s old homestead in Franconia, NH, now a center for poetry and the arts. Donnelly’s awards include the Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission Prize for the Translation of Japanese Literature, and a 2018 Amy Clampitt Residency Award. More at www.patrickdonnellypoetry.com
