WELCOME TO THE HVWC CALENDAR: home of all our upcoming readings, events and workshops. You can view by list or calendar (see right menu to choose). Click the colored tabs below to show only specific options. Our workshops run as multi-session series or one-day “intensives.” Note, we list the multi-session courses on the first day they meet only. The full dates of the session are described in the course descriptions. You would need to scroll back to the start date if you needed to enroll for something already underway. But do let us know if you want to join something in midstream since we need the blessing of the instructor. Questions? Email us.

“What Else is Playing?” Monday Night Poetry with Nathan McClain (via Zoom)
May 9 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm$370.00
website maker Before Fandango or Movie Pass, one had to travel to and stand in line at the movie theatre to secure a ticket and seat. Occasionally, this meant discovering the film you’d waited in line for, that you intended to see, had already sold out. Sometimes, it meant you chose to see another film instead. And sometimes that alternative proved surprisingly enjoyable and satisfying, despite your original plan.
This workshop will focus on revision strategies and craft techniques of poems participants have already drafted and look to refine. One of our primary goals will be to both offer and receive feedback. However, participants will also be encouraged to explore additional ideas or alternate opportunities their poems may offer which may not have been the poet’s original intention. In short, we will interrogate intent as well as surprise and discovery that may be re-invigorating or re-energizing for the poet. What else is playing? What more might the poem have to offer? This workshop will seek to explore those questions, among others.
NB: This workshop will be taught on Zoom. Registrants will receive the Zoom link to the email address they use to register. It will arrive immediately after registration so please check your spam folder if you do not receive it. It will also be sent the day before class as a reminder. Please review the course policies page before registering for any classes.
This class will run for 6 consecutive Mondays from 6:30 – 9 pm EST starting on May 9.
