WELCOME TO THE HVWC CALENDAR: home of all our upcoming readings, events and workshops. You can view by list or calendar (see right menu to choose). Click the colored tabs below to show only specific options. Our workshops run as multi-session series or one-day “intensives.” Note, we list the multi-session courses on the first day they meet only. The full dates of the session are described in the course descriptions. You would need to scroll back to the start date if you needed to enroll for something already underway. But do let us know if you want to join something in midstream since we need the blessing of the instructor. Questions? Email us.

The Alchemy of Autofiction with Anna Potter via Zoom

May 1 @ 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Free – $124

This is a one-day, four-hour workshop. Have you ever wanted to write about a life experience but found yourself hamstrung by the truth? Autofiction offers a safe space to explore a slanted truth. In this workshop, we’ll explore passages from authors such as Jenny Offill, Elif Batuman, Sheila Heti, Jeanette Wintereson, and Timothy O’Brien to explore how they use their own life experiences to power their fiction. Then we’ll take what we’ve observed and practice it on the page. Students will have the opportunity to share a piece of writing of their choice for feedback from the instructor and the class.

Please note: This class will be on Zoom. and capped at 20 students. Zoom login information will be emailed at the time of registration (please check spam/promotions filter). Please email [email protected] with any questions.

There are two Altman Persons of Color Scholarships available given on a first come, first served basis to writers of color living in the United States. There is one need-based scholarship for a writer living in the United States. Please register for no more than one free scholarship class per month. Please notify HVWC immediately if your plans change and you will not be able to attend the class so we can give your space to another student. Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation with this.
