WELCOME TO THE HVWC CALENDAR: home of all our upcoming readings, events and workshops. You can view by list or calendar (see right menu to choose). Click the colored tabs below to show only specific options. Our workshops run as multi-session series or one-day “intensives.” Note, we list the multi-session courses on the first day they meet only. The full dates of the session are described in the course descriptions. You would need to scroll back to the start date if you needed to enroll for something already underway. But do let us know if you want to join something in midstream since we need the blessing of the instructor. Questions? Email us.

Spring Break Camp: The Blueprints of Magic: Basics in Screenwriting with Adam Coleman
In-person at HVWC
Grades 5-8
March 26-29
9:30 am-12:30 pm
in-person at HVWC

Film and television are collaborative efforts that take many people to bring to life, but the magic always begins with the script, the written story that serves as the blueprint for the entire cinematic piece. Using the written word in only limited form, screenwriters evoke visual spectacle and breathe worlds to life. In this workshop, students will learn the basic technical and structural rules of screenwriting, as well as lessons in genre before writing then revising their own short film scripts. Students may choose to work collaboratively or individually.

Register for Playwriting Basics in the afternoon and receive a $20 discount!

Adam Coleman graduated Magna Cum Laude from Purchase College, with a bachelor’s in Playwriting and Screenwriting. He has lectured at Community Music Space’s summer film program, Studio X, for two years, and his short screenplay I Crave Not Death But Something Like It was a winner in the Purchase College POV Festival.
