The full dates of the session are described in the course descriptions. You would need to scroll back to the start date if you needed to enroll for something already underway. But do let us know if you want to join something in midstream since we need the blessing of the instructor. Questions? Email us.

Year of Your Book: Fiction with Jonathan Vatner via Zoom

September 6 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$670.00
This is a 12-week course meeting Wednesdays from 7 pm to 9 pm (Eastern time), starting September 6 and ending November 22. This class will be taught online via Zoom. Login details will be sent via email from the instructor a few days before class begins. Please email [email protected] with questions.

How long have you been saying you want to write a book? Let 2023 be the year you do it! Whether you have a partial draft of a novel, memoir, or linked story collection, or just an idea and the desire to write, this class can help you move that “book in your head” onto the page. We will craft outlines and discuss structure, then address the mechanics of fiction during in-depth, sensitive critiques of your work. Each student can workshop four excerpts over the 12 weeks. Generative exercises will challenge you to experiment with new voices and forms, and our community of writers will help you stick to your goals. With steady effort, you can finish that first draft by this time next year.

Jonathan Vatner is the author of The Bridesmaids Union (St. Martin’s Press, 2022) and Carnegie Hill (Thomas Dunne Books, 2019). His novels have earned praise from PeopleTown & CountryThe New York Post, and the Los Angeles Review of Books. He is the managing editor of Hue, the magazine of the Fashion Institute of Technology, and teaches fiction writing at New York University. He lives in Yonkers, NY, with his husband and cats.
