WELCOME TO THE HVWC CALENDAR: home of all our upcoming readings, events and workshops. You can view by list or calendar (see right menu to choose). Click the colored tabs below to show only specific options. Our workshops run as multi-session series or one-day “intensives.” Note, we list the multi-session courses on the first day they meet only. The full dates of the session are described in the course descriptions. You would need to scroll back to the start date if you needed to enroll for something already underway. But do let us know if you want to join something in midstream since we need the blessing of the instructor. Questions? Email us.

Year of Your Book: Poetry with Jennifer Franklin (via Zoom)

January 6 @ 10:30 am - 1:00 pm

$370.00

This a 6-week class meeting on Zoom, Fridays 10:30am-1:00pm, starting Friday January 6th and ending Friday February 10th.

You have written the first draft of your full-length collection. Now, we need to order all of the poems, decide if there should be sections, revise each of the poems, settle on the title, and most importantly—remove any poems that are not as strong. This series of classes begins at the start of 2023 and goes through the year. A combination of workshopping new and old poems and deep revision, serious critique, deadlines, and mutual support, the goal is to submit to book prizes and chapbook contests in fall 2022. Participants are encouraged to enroll for every six-week session. Each six-week session, a maximum of three manuscripts will be reviewed–one every other week. The other week we will review two poems each. New students must email [email protected] with a synopsis of your manuscript and ten pages of poetry before registering. Class is capped at 11 students. Please do not register for this class without an invitation from Jennifer.

Jennifer Franklin (AB Brown University, MFA Columbia University School of the Arts) is the author of two full collections, most recently No Small Gift (Four Way Books, 2018). Her third book, IF SOME GOD SHAKES YOUR HOUSE will be published by Four Way Books in March 2023. Jennifer teaches poetry in the Manhattanville MFA Program and has been teaching manuscript revision at HVWC for the past ten years. Her poetry has been published widely in print and online including American Poetry Review, Blackbird, Boston Review, New England Review, Gettysburg Review, Guernica, JAMA, Love’s Executive Order, The Nation, Paris Review, “poem-a-day” on poets.org, Prairie Schooner, and Rhino. www.jenniferfranklinpoet.com
