The Scottish Café by Susana H. Case is a series of poems loosely based upon the experiences of the mathematicians of the Scottish Café, who lived and worked in what is now Lviv, a center of Eastern European intellectual life before World War II. The publication, now in a new English-Ukrainian edition, testifies to the resilience of the people of Ukraine. The saga of The Scottish Café is a story of heroic intellectual resistance to fascism, timely in today’s political climate.
