Recurring Events

We have several types of popular community-oriented events for writers of all types at the Hudson Valley Writers Center, which we make sure to schedule regularly.

Open Write

Our new monthly evening of generative writing and community building at the Hudson Valley Writers Center. Prompts will be offered, refreshments will be served (this includes wine). Stories will be swapped. $10 for non-members. Free for members. Your hosts are Michelle Thomas and Cassie Cartaginese.

Open Mic

Arrive early to sign up to read for our popular evenings (and sometimes mornings) of sharing for any genre, and not necessarily only writing. Fiction, non-fiction, poetry, music, comedy, storytelling, and more are welcome. Open Mic will give you an opportunity to share your words, music or comedy in a nurturing, comfortable space with some great people. Twenty slots to share, first-come, first served (10 reserved online and 10 in-house). Five minutes each open slot, plus one featured artist each time opening the event. $5 suggested donation. Advance reservation recommended but not required. Bill Buschel hosts.

Submission Sunday

Submission Sundays is a free service to our Members. Space is limited to 20 participants each session so advance sign up is required. One Sunday a month, 12:30-2:30 pm. Join host M. A. Scott for two hours of insider information on where and how to send your best work to literary journals. Members can reserve a seat at the table of like-minded writers with a room of journals, advice on where to submit, moral and technical support, and everything you need to successfully send your work to target publisher(s). Bring your laptop. Snacks are served. Any genre welcome.
