About the event

This is a 6-week class that meets Wednesdays on Zoom on September 9, 16, 23, 30, October 7, and 14.

In this 6-week workshop, we will read short plays by Samuel Beckett and use them as jumping off points to write our own short plays.  We'll borrow from Beckett's sense of play and experiment.  In our writing and in our reading, we'll pay particular attention to the rhythms of language, the physical life of characters onstage, and the use of metaphor.  A typical class will include some discussion of a short play by Beckett, as well as in-class writing exercises and workshopping of students' work.  No prior writing experience is necessary, and any amount of experience is welcome.

BIO

Lily Akerman is a writer based in New York.  Her recent work includes the plays The Commons (59E59), Hedgehog Years (Playing On Air), and the libretti Dreamcatchr (Dublin International Film Festival)…
