About the event

In this workshop, we'll explore the interplay between narrative and lyric movement, looking at how to guide a poem from that initial inspiration into new territory. We'll look at how some poems create "swerves," and how collage and juxtaposition can surprise you and move your readers. By the end of our session, you'll have a deeper understanding of poetic structure, as well as a new draft or two that interweaves imagery and imagination.


Kim Addonizio is the author of over a dozen books of poetry and prose, most recently Exit Opera (Poems), W.W. Norton, 2024), just out in paperback. She has received fellowships from the NEA and Guggenheim Foundation, and Pushcart Prizes in both poetry and the essay. Tell Me was a National Book Award Finalist in poetry. Addonizio’s work has appeared in the New Yorker, the New York Times, the Paris ReviewPoetry, and many others, and her work has been widely translated and anthologized. She lives in Oakland, CA and…
