About the event
In this two-hour workshop, we’ll take a close look at three techniques that are helpful to revising poems-in-progress or poems that don’t seem to quite work: squeezing out the excess; providing stepping stones; and moving the pieces around. In the week preceding the course, each student will send me two or three poems they’d like to have workshopped (I’ll choose one); and we’ll try to apply whichever technique works. I expect everyone, very much including me, will learn something useful.
Rachel Hadas is the author of many books of poetry, essays, and translations. Her most recent books are Ghost Guest (2023) and Pandemic Almanac (2022); two new collections, Forty-four Pastorals and From Which We Start Awake, are forthcoming in 2025. Rachel is professor Emerita at Rutgers University-Newark, where she taught English for many years.
