About the event
Caroline Smith is a British poet. She trained as a sculptor at Goldsmiths in London and now lives in Wembley where she works with refugees. The Immigration Handbook (Seren) was shortlisted for the Ted Hughes Award and translated into Italian by Prof Paola Splendore (edizioni dell’asino). Smith is widely published in journals and anthologies including: Staying Alive (Bloodaxe), The Poetry Review, The Spectator, Magma, The London Magazine. She was Longlisted for the National Poetry Competition, won Second Prize in The Indigo Dreams competition and was shortlisted in The Keats/Shelley and Alpine International. She is a 2025 Hawthornden Fellow. In conjunction with Brent Libraries, Smith has started ‘Poetry in Wembley’ 160+One. This series of readings brings contemporary poets to diaspora communities. It celebrates the 160 languages spoken in Wembley plus the unifying language of poetry.
