Stephanie Stein Crease is a jazz historian, author, and editor. Her most recent book is Rhythm Man: Chick Webb and the Beat That Changed America (Oxford University Press, 2023), which received the 2024 Associated Recorded Sound Collection Award (ARSC) for Excellence. Her previous books are Gil Evans: Out of the Cool, 2002 ASCAP/Deems Taylor Award; Duke Ellington for Kids and Music Lessons: Guide Your Child to Play A Musical Instrument. She was a contributor to The Jazz Omnibus: 21st- Century Photos and Writings by Members of the Jazz Journalists Association (Cymbal Press 2025); the Biographical Encyclopedia of Jazz and the Oxford Companion Guide to Jazz.
