Poetic Modes: Epistolary and Persona Poetry

We all face the same dilemma of questions when faced with writing a new poem: where do I begin; where do I end it ; what should happen in between?  Fortunately, there are two distinct poetic modes that can guide us through these question, namely: the epistolary/letter poem (through which we address the object of our emotional urgency); and the persona poem (in which we adopt the voice of another person to explore different emotional points of view). Richard Blanco will discuss exemplary poems that employ these modes, as well parameters and “tips” for crafting these types of poems. He will also share take-home prompts so that participants can jump right into writing.
