In writing our own ecopoems and climate-driven pieces, breaking genres, we will reimagine our roles in the current climate crisis via creative writing.

This is a 6-week generative workshop that will meet on Zoom on January 7, 14, 21, 28, Feb. 4 and Feb. 11.

Initial understanding of ecopoetry was often intertwined with nature poetry. For centuries, poets have written about their environment to draw attention to its beauty. At a time when we have begun to feel the effects of climate change, contemporary poets and writers have brought to the forefront the adverse effects of modernization of the planet. We will read the work of poets such as Forrest Gander, W.S. Merwin, Fatimah Asghar, R.K. Narayan, Mai Der Vang, and others to build towards writing our own ecopoems and expand our understanding of climate writing.
