June Jordan defined poetry as writing the fewest words needed to achieve maximal impact. In this six week, generative workshop, we will read & write poems that June Jordan would have admired--poems that dazzle, devastate and/or drive us.

About the event

This is a generative poetry workshop that meets on Zoom for 6 weeks on Nov. 3, Nov. 10, Nov. 17, Nov. 24, Dec. 1, and Dec. 8.

June Jordan defined poetry as writing the fewest words needed to achieve maximal impact. In this six week, generative workshop, we will read & write poems that June Jordan would have admired--poems that dazzle, devastate and/or drive us. We will discuss poetic forms such as haiku, sijo, list poems & sonnets. Readings will include poems by writers such as Jane Kenyon, Halya Alan, Nick Flynn, Margaret Atwood, Terrance Hayes, Esther Ra, Diane Seuss, Edgar Kunz & more. Most of our time will be spent reading & writing together, with time at the end of each session to share our work verbally (optional).

Joan Kwon Glass is a Korean diasporic author, winner of the 2024 Perugia Press Poetry Prize for her manuscript DAUGHTER OF THREE GONE…
