About the event
Singing in Dark Times: Writing Poems of Resistance & Endurance:
In Motto, Bertolt Brecht writes: “In the dark times, will there also be singing? Yes there will be singing. / About the dark times.” In this six-week long, generative poetry workshop, we will read and write poems about living within and through “dark times” personally & politically. This will include an exploration of "political poetry," trauma writing & unexpected acts of resistance in our own writing. Various poetic forms will be incorporated including epistles, erasures, anthems, list poems and more. Each session will include time for reading, writing and sharing our work. We will draw upon art, news articles, photographs and nature as sources of inspiration. Readings will include writers like KB Brookins, Natalie Diaz, Lucille Clifton, Franny Choi, Ada Limon, June Jordan and many others.
Joan Kwon Glass is a Korean diasporic author, winner of the 2024 Perugia Press…
