Over four weeks, we will perform a close reading of several contemporary retellings of myths, fables, and fairy tales in both poetic and prose forms. You will also have the opportunity to craft a short story or 1-3 poems to share and workshop.

About the event

This class meets for 4 Wednesdays, on Zoom, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. (ET), on June 3, 10, 17, and 24.


Retelling classic myths, fables, and fairy tales modernizes stories woven into various cultures over thousands of years, calling in archetypal symbols while creating inclusive, diverse narratives that voice a new mythology. Over four weeks, we will perform a close reading of several contemporary retellings of myths, fables, and fairy tales in both poetic and prose forms. You will also have the opportunity to craft a short story or 1-3 poems to share and receive feedback on in our final two classes.


BIO

Shannon Kearns is a Bram Stoker Award nominated writer of speculative poetry and fiction. Her debut poetry collection, The Uterus is an Impossible Forest was recently published by Raw Dog Screaming Press.
