Reading and Writing a Memoir of Social Justice with Michael Klein (Zoom)

This course meets 4 Sundays from 2:00-4:00 p.m. (ET) on Zoom on September 13, 20, 27, and October 4.

At one point while writing my second book of autobiographical essays, I got some sage advice from my mentor who said that it was time to extend my reach to the world beyond the self with writing that let in more of the world. In this way, she was advocating for finding and using language to talk about war, race, the earth, the animals, the environment, and that includes engagement with one’s beliefs and how they create an individual vision in context with self and collective history. In this workshop, we will read the work of writers including Arundhati Roy, Chase Twitchell, Ilya Kaminsky, James Baldwin and others that face the world as it is in real time and we will generate new work that faces that same world while applying…
