About the event
This is a three week workshop and will meet on January 6, 13, and 20 on Zoom.
Nobel Prize Winner Louise Glück (1943-2023) was one of the major voices of post-war and contemporary American literature, with an incredible range and a transformative approach to lyric poetry. This three-part close reading workshop will examine a sample of poetry from early-, middle-, and late-career Glück, with an attention to her mastery of form, experiments in interiority, and her boundary-pushing work in the sequence or sustained poetry collection. To deepen our reading and discussion, I’ll also provide writing prompts each week, inspired by this beloved poet, as a way to grow our own sense of poetic craft and to continue our collective cultural conversation with this immortal writer.
Richie Hofmann is the author, most recently, of A Hundred Lovers (Alfred A. Knopf, 2022), and he teaches at the University of Chicago.
