About the event
Un essai in French is an attempt. Likewise, the verb essayer means to try. In this workshop, we will try our hand at the essay poem. We will survey the history of essay, explore hybrid poems that borrow and incorporate its elements, and be inspired to try writing our own. Luminaries--including Michel de Montaigne, Anne Carson, Ezra Pound, Greg Pardlo, Maggie Nelson, Lydia Davis, and Claudia Rankine—will be our guides, as we explore this fascinating form.
This online generative poetry workshop will run for 4 weeks, on Wednesday evenings, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Oct. 29, Nov. 5, Nov. 12, and Nov. 19.
