About the event

What is flash? This question makes flash one of the most beautiful and interesting forms. Flash fiction moves between the traditionally arced narrative and the wilds of prose poetry. The only rule is that it remains below 1,500 words. If there are any other “rules” about flash, they are more ambiguous. The prose must be tight. Every word counts. It is visual. It is breathless. It moves. There is a surprise. In this class, we will look at older flash (before we called it “flash”) stories by Franz Kafka and Virginia Woolf as well as stories by contemporary writers such as Avitus B. Carle, Cheryl Pappas, and Andrew Bertaina.

This is a 6-week flash fiction class, on Zoom, that meets from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on  9/3, 9/10, 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, and 10/8.

Beth Hahn (she/her) is the author of the novels THE SINGING BONE (Regan Arts, 2016) and THE CITY BENEATH HER (Regal House, 2025).…
