Teaching Students to Write Poems about Hope and Despair in a Time of Hope and Despair:


In this workshop, we will write poems about hope and despair in a time of hope and despair, using a lesson plan designed for high school students, so that we can inhabit an approach to writing that we could then use in our own classrooms.  All writers are welcome, but especially high school teachers who want a supportive class designed to help them in their teaching practices.


BIO

Darren Wood teaches at The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, including workshops on poetry. He has a B.A. from Swarthmore College and a M.A.L.S. from The Graduate Center at CUNY, where for his capstone he wrote about the ethics of representation in persona poems as well as a series of persona poems in the voice of residents of the New York Juvenile Asylum (the predecessor to…
